Bi Fold Hardware

Unlike sliding doors which require a track and rollers, bifold doors require a bit more hardware. The goal of making bi fold doors into closet doors is to have them hinged together in pairs, with them opening and closing in pairs. Finding the best hardware for these doors is dependent on:

Where the doors fold open
You’ll need to look first at how you want the doors to open. A traditional bifold door will fold with another into the closet opening. They can be mounted to fold only to one side, split up or both fold to both sides. Don’t want the doors to fold inside the opening? Then choose “full access” hardware.

Mount to the floor?
There is some hardware that may require you to directly mount a pivot to the floor. For those with custom flooring, this might not be practical, so pick hardware that is heavy duty and doesn’t need the floor to be touched.

Oversized doors
Many bi fold doors for closets are oversized, and require heavier limit hardware. Use hardware that will have a pivot mounted to the floor to help stabilize them.

Bi-Fold Doors with Glass

Unique, stylish and beautiful: glass panels can really add to a bi fold closet door. On the fence? See how glass can make the difference when trying to create a chic closet door:

The frosted glass allows items to be seen, and the door doesn't even have to be opened for you to tell what's inside!

These have a more modern flair, and the colored glass isn’t translucent enough to show visitors what lurks inside.

Even as your kids grow older and their tastes change, glass panels will remain in style.

Let NYC glass panels for closet doors company The Closet Builder give your closet a new flair. Find out what we can do for your closet doors at www.TheClosetDoors.com

How to Install a Bifold Door

When it comes to closet doors, the most popular type remains sliding doors, as everyone from children to seniors can easily open them. Over recent years, however, bifold doors have become more popular as a closet door option, thanks to being easy to install and style choices. If you’re getting ready to install a bifold door, remember:

Paint before you mount
Before you start, paint or stain the door. It’s difficult to get a closet door to look the way you want when it’s on the hinges.

Remember unique positions
All bi fold doors are not created equal. If using a kit, then the hardware will need to be positioned in a distinct position. Pay careful attention to diagrams that illustrate where to place what.

Don’t tighten the track hardware
By not tightening the hardware onto the track, you’ll be able to easier hang the doors.

Having trouble? Then let Newark bifold closet doors company The Closet Builder help out. Find out about our New Jersey closet doors services at www.TheClosetDoors.com

Wood Panels Cleaning

If you have closet doors with wood panels, it’s best to develop a regular cleaning pattern to ensure your doors retain their luster. Here are tips to remember when you’re cleaning wood panel closet doors:
  • First, consider the finish. For painted enamel surfaces, use a regular liquid cleaning agent. Hand-rubbed, stained-wood and natural finishes require special care from a product that won’t dull or discolor the surface.
  • The type of wood is not important when considering what to use to clean. Only when you’re considering the type of color, don’t worry about the wood type.
  • Real and synthetics can be cleaned as other types, as long as they’re protected by varnish or sealant.
  • For raw wood, like some cedar panels, it’s risky to clean them with regular agents.
